OUT-FOXED

An inquisitive fox was seen out at the back of the park pond on Monday 17th by Glyn Evans during his  wader and wildfowl survey along the north side of the Island towards Cudmore Grove.
These photos were all taken by Glyn during his walk and he's kindly passed them onto me to share.

Glyn's walk started at the Strood with a great view of the osprey diving down into the Pyefleet channel and catching a fish. The osprey then flew north-west carrying the fish away.

Fourteen little terns were counted on the walk, here one of them fishing in the Colne.

Four common terns were seen although the most notable seabird was an immature kittiwake in the mouth of the Colne.

Other birds noted were 88 little egrets, 200 avocet, 460 black-tailed godwits, 12 whimbrel, 2 green sandpipers, common sandpiper and two whinchat.

A number of swallows were seen hawking after insects.

Two clouded yellows were seen along the Reeveshall seawall during Glyn's walk. The first clouded yellows of the summer.

Also visiting the Pyefleet on Monday was Martin Cock who counted seven common seals at Maydays, also the two whinchats seen, brown argus and a common blue here too.
